Saint Martin/Sint Maarten - a half-French, half-Dutch island - offers two different cultures in one Caribbean vacation destination. There are no customs checks on the border between the two sides, so you are free to travel freely throughout the island. But before you visit, you would have to make your decision, on which part you´d like to stay.

The southern half is the Dutch side, Sint Maarten, and is a great place for people who like to enjoy more the "American way" of living, to participate in lot's of activities such as snorkeling, jet skiing, or golf, as well as entertainment and nightlife, mainly in the Simpson Bay and Maho area. St. Maarten's capital is Philipsburg, which bustles with duty-free shopping, quality dining, beach bars and an active nightlife as well with several casinos at your disposal.

The northern half of the island is the French side, St. Martin. This area is more quiet and refined, with gorgeous, secluded white sand beaches, French cuisine and French "laissez-faire", sophisticated resorts and intimate private villas. The French side is a perfect mix of European (primarily French), and Caribbean lifestyles and cultures.

Towns like Marigot or small villages such as Grand Case were able to keep their authenticity over the years, and exuberate the laid-back ambiance of the French Caribbean. There are also apartments and private villas near the famous clothing optional beach of Orient Bay, probably the most known beach of the entire Caribbean.
